My name is Amy, although you will sometimes see me referred to as Priya, a name bestowed upon me by Yogi Amrit Desai, who is responsible for bringing the Kripalu linage of yoga, which I follow, to the United States.
I am currently based in the Phoenix area, along with my husband of 21 years and fellow yoga teacher; our two teenage sons, three cats and a whole lot of crazy that goes along with all of the above!
I grew up traveling the country with my parents in a converted van as they traveled doing art fairs around the country. Eventually a little brother joined our travels and we upgraded to a 22' travel trailer. A few years later my parents came to their senses and decided 2 kids in a small trailer may not have been the brightest idea for long term mental health and we made an attempt, albeit short lived, to settle in one place and be "normal."
Much like living in a trailer with two kids, normal was soon overrated and we made the move from the farmlands of Wisconsin to the deserts of Arizona and found home! This is where my seeking spirit really took off! I spent years living and working at the Grand Canyon as well as Jerome while also continuing to travel around the world. I had countless amazing experiences and exposure to other countries, cultures and languages that I cherish to this day. And now, we share those experiences with our children.
One of my biggest influences were the teachings of my dad and his love for Native American history and culture. Time spent in ceremony with my family on the Navajo reservation ingrained in me the deep respect to honor our earth, spirit and to continue the journey of endless new possibilities for learning.
Fast forward a whole lot of years and a few life changing events and we get to my yoga journey. The opportunity came up when I least expected it but was life changing. Giving me the tools to process and release some major traumas left to fester through the years, as well as the loss of not one but three if our parents during COVID; while also teaching me to be gentler and more accepting of myself and reconnect with want I want from life.
My upbringing and experiences as well as putting in the work to heal my own unresolved pain and traumas, gives me the unique advantage to hold space for you and your empowerment to become a healthy, vibrant and peaceful you! I am so excited for the possibilities in front of us and where we will go together!
Aho and Blessings,
Rev. Amy Beloat
